Dr Chowdhury completed his MBBS from Calcutta National Medical College. Following MBBS. he did DNB Medicine from the prestigious institute Christian Medical College Vellore. During his Post Graduation days at CMC Vellore, he was attracted to Rheumatology as it involves multiple specialities and deals with the most complicated cases in Medicine.
After obtaining a post-graduation in Medicine, he joined the Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at CMC Vellore under the supervision of Prof. Debasish Danda. This department sees a huge number of patients from Eastern and North-Eastern India, especially West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Manipur, and Nagaland and Neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal etc. During his tenure in this department, he learnt the basics of Rheumatology under the able guidance of Prof Danda.
Subsequently, he got selected for the DM Rheumatology course at one of the premier institutes in the country - Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow. This institute is one of oldest institutes producing some of the the best rheumatologists in India. He had the opportunity to work under Prof Ramnath Misra and Prof Amita Aggarwal, who has trained some of the best rheumatologists in the country.
During his training at CMC Vellore and SGPGIMS Lucknow, he gained vast experience in the management of rheumatic diseases.He was trained in musculoskeletal ultrasound as well as MRI.
He also received a prestigious fellowship from the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR). He was among the very few Indians who have received this fellowship. As part of this fellowship, his expertise was refined at one of the premier pediatric rheumatology departments In the UK viz at Musgrave Park Hospital, Belfast, under the supervision of Dr Madeleine Rooney,
He subsequently came back to India and chose to start practice in his native state of West Bengal.
