Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a condition characterized by widespread pain across the body, particularly affecting soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Although the precise cause remains unclear, it is thought to be linked to irregular processing of pain signals within the brain and spinal cord.
Common Symptoms
Chronic Pain: This is the defining symptom, often presenting as widespread discomfort in regions such as the neck, back, shoulders, and hips. Fatigue: Patients typically report ongoing exhaustion that doesn’t improve with rest, rendering daily activities incredibly tiring. Sleep Disturbances: Fibromyalgia is frequently linked to poor sleep quality, with individuals waking multiple times during the night and feeling unrefreshed upon rising. Cognitive Issues: Many individuals with fibromyalgia face challenges with attention and focus, commonly known as “fibro fog,” which can affect work efficiency and everyday responsibilities. Headaches: Those suffering from fibromyalgia often experience tension headaches or migraines as well. Mood Disorders: Anxiety and depression are common accompanying conditions that can intensify the overall effects of fibromyalgia.
